In the next five years, China will invest RMB 1 trillion (US$152 billion) to implement the Green Building Action Plan. The action plan, which was formulated by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, has been open for public comment for half a year, and will soon be released.
The action plan has pointed out two goals. One is to conduct energy saving retrofit for existing buildings. As planned, 570 million m2 existing buildings will receive energy saving retrofit. Second is to build more than 1 billion m2 of new green buildings in cities and towns and 100 million m2 of green farmhouses during the 12th Five-year Plan, totaling 1.1 billion m2. By this action plan, huge market opportunities may open in the fields of design, materials, and intelligence management of buildings.
